RPL affects
approximately
5% of women

Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is defined by two or more failed clinical pregnancies. The etiology of RPL is not well characterized: after excluding the known etiologies, approximately half of women with RPL still have no identifiable cause. The fact that RPL is, in fact, recurrent suggests a strong genetic component, however there is currently a very limited understanding of the genomic contributions to RPL.

This study brings together leading experts in clinical genetics, reproduction and infertility and human genomics across ten leading medical research institutions to define the genetic basis of recurrent pregnancy loss. Our study uses whole genome sequencing and advanced bioinformatic analyses of trios for losses <20 weeks of gestation.

It is essential that prospective study participants have a thorough evaluation for all of the known etiologies of RPL to allow our team to focus on only those cases that are likely to have a genetic etiology.
